Wheat Belly

Author
William Davis

This book was recommended by a healthcare expert that I trust and admire. At first I really was skeptical that it had anything new to expose. However, by the time I had read half the book I was starting to get convinced that William Davis may actually be onto something here and maybe going wheat free, was the right thing for me too.
Wheat Belly is written by William Davis who is a well respected cardiologist. In this book he tries to show us and explain how we can stop fat from storing in our bodies as well as eliminate a whole host of other common health problems. These include minor ailments such as rashes to more serious conditions such as high blood sugar and diabetes.
The title of the book actually refers to the hated stomach bulges that pop out on most people nowadays. He actually experienced more than two thousand of his patients get healthier after he recommended that they remove wheat from their diets. As a result he concluded that wheat in things such as whole grain wraps that we have for lunch was mainly responsible for the excess fat in our bodies and not the fact that one is greedy or consumes too much butter.
He goes on to further recommend that we should eliminate these from our diets if we really want to have drastic weight loss or even just to stay healthy. I personally enjoyed how he uses scientific research and nutrition, as well as real life case studies from people who eliminated wheat and have began to feel a whole lot better. He also presents the readers with a plan of action that is designed to help you gradually eliminate wheat from your daily diet. In Wheat Belly, you will get details on why wheat has become a problem. William says it is mainly due to the fact that we are now eating genetically engineered wheat that is very different from the original version way back in the early days.
The book has been well researched and is written in a way that is easy to read. Although I have not quit wheat yet, other people who have read the book and have taken action are starting to see positive results. At times I did feel he got too technical in regards to food and body chemistry, however he still sticks to his overall message. The one thing that bothered me about this book is how Dr Davis may have lead the naive reader who takes everything at face value, to believe that wheat is what causes many serious health conditions. The inclusion of some wheat free recipes, is a welcome addition. I would recommend Wheat Belly to anyone who may suspect that wheat in their diet maybe the cause of their weight problem. Ever since I read the book I do not look at wheat products such as bread the same anymore. You too will probably never look at something as simple as double glazed donut the same way after Dr William Davis is done with you.
