This keeps me pretty well informed as far as the newest diets and lifestyle change publications are concerned.
This past summer I had a chance to read Dr. Joel Fuhrman's book 'Eat to Live' which was first published in 2003 but has since been republished over 20 times in many different languages. In his latest publication 'Super Immunity' he does offer a lot more biochemistry than in the previous book, however he still makes it easy for anyone to understand what he is writing about. Super Immunity is based on the latest scientific research. Dr. Fuhrman exposes how we can fight many common diseases and aliments such as cold, flu and many other infections. I found the first couple of chapters too scientific, however as you read further into the book it becomes easier to digest for the ordinary person like me and you. His goal is to prove that the body can still be super immune in this day and age. He uses new data from various sources including clinical tests, nutritional research as well as his own patients to accomplish this. He also explains how the food we eat affects our health and how eating certain foods such as leafy green vegetables, mushrooms, onions, garlic, pomegranate, berries and seeds can help boost our immune system.
Who is Joel Fuhrman M.D.? He is not only a best selling author but also a board certified family physician and nutritional researcher. His specialty is prevention and reversing disease using nutrition and other natural ways. Over the years he has been featured on most of the major news networks nationwide and currently has his own show on PBS. Altogether he has authored seven books on nutrition, including this one. Dr. Fuhrman is also very active in the field of scientific research in human nutrition. Some of his recent work has published in the Nutrition Journal. He is also a research director of the Nutritional Research Project. Reading Super Immunity helped me understand clearly where diseases originate from as well as what one can do to stop and reverse the effects of disease. Dr Fuhrman has taken all the good information that you need to know including proven nutritional information and compiled it in this book, in an easy to read way. I really appreciate how he emphasized on how you can improve your health by simply paying attention to the quality of your food.
There are also 85 immune boosting recipes which I am looking forward to trying soon. You will also find a two week meal plan, which although mainly vegan, he shows you how you can substitute animal products. You are not required to follow this meal plan, you can simply use it as a guideline. In conclusion, if you seriously want to improve your health, both physically and mentally, this is the perfect book for you. The man who wrote this lives by the principles he has laid out and shares them with his patients too. Super Immunity is both educational and practical. It is nice to know that we all are still able to live a healthy, strong and long life. There is no way you can read this book and not be able to make a single adjustment to your diet and nutrition. After all he does give you specific and original instructions for any changes you may need to make. Do not forget to eat your GOMBBS!
